Circles Revealed

I can finally show you what this is...

after the teaser a few posts ago!

Our new coffee table/ottoman/footrest/seating! Which like the daybed, Tony built and I upholstered.

Its upholstered in an old pure wool blanket that I stitched on remnants from these two chair upholsters I did last year.

This is quite a big piece. A little over a metre square, I think. Here's an overhead shot...

which makes it look kinda small!

I don't keep anything on it at the moment, which is why it's styled bare.

This is why!

Its also a kids daybed/trampoline/stage.

I think I would have loved one of these too, when I was a kid :)

Btw, the wool blanket wears and wipes down so well. Perfect for kids!

What does your coffee table look like? Do you use it a lot?
We have never really had one, 'til now.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Stripes Revealed

If you read this post and are wondering what the piece of furniture was with the stripes that bled, then...

here it is!!

Little bedside drawers that was missing it's legs, so I added these...

red castors!

I thought it might go nicely in a little boys room. I don't have any of those, only girls around here so I'm selling this one!

This is what it looked like before...

I had to keep the handles, those things were glued on!!!

But I don't mind them.

It's why I went with more of a masculine look for it. There's not really much girly about those handles!

Plus I couldn't resist doing some more GT's!! Especially the reverse stripe sort, I love a mix of paint and natural timber on furniture at the moment.

So there you have it!

It's not the end of the world if your paint bleeds through to where it's not meant to go.

It all worked out in the end! click here to read how I fixed the paint bleed that happened on this project, if you missed it!

What do you think?

Have a wonderful week!!

How I Solve Bleeding Under Painters Tape

Its a bit of a pain when this happens...

when all I really wanted was clean, crisp lines like this!

So how do I go about fixing this problem?

Let me show you! But first, this only works when your furniture piece is having natural wood and paint treatment. If you're painting stripes in one color and the rest in another color like this...

well that's a whole other kettle of fish!! Maybe for another day!!

So here's what I do -
I use a nail and a small piece of medium sand paper...

wrapped around the nail

hold it like a pencil - gives maximum control. You don't want to sand any paint off and have to re-paint!

and sand it off.

Here's a close up before -

During -
Sorry for the sideways pics!! Not sure how that happened!!
And after sanding -

When you've got all the paint off, you can repeat the same process with some fine sandpaper, and finish off with some wax.

Instead of using a nail to apply the wax, I used my index finger wrapped in a rag -

Here the left has been waxed and the right stripe hasn't

Its handy to have a clean rag nearby to wipe off any you may get on the paint straight away

you could wax the whole piece if that's the look you want.

Hope this has been some help for you other DIY stripe lovers!!

End result - coming soon!!

Just Finished...

this old, old, old, old, old (ok, you get the picture!) table -

See how wonky the top is?

It's been patched and fixed a few times in it's life me thinks!

It used to be white, well thereabouts...I'm guessing it was a shed table.

Someone used it to work on, store things on, paint on it.

I used it as my bed side table to match Tony's fast & furious reverse striped one on his side.

(We have new ones now!!)

I call this the ding table because it has so many dings on it!

I only recently decided I could do more to this little table. Mainly to the top, I love sanding so much that I couldn't resist spending some quality time with my orbital sander ;)

I've been trying a new product - beeswax polish. Its been around a fair while, I just haven't tried it until now
and I gotta say I love it!!

Have you used it before?

In other happenings, I went to a local bloggers meet up yesterday which was just awesome!!
I learnt about google reader, google alert, more!!   There were 6 of us there this time and we definately plan to do it again soon!

Thank you girls for a lovely afternoon, great conversation and for sharing the knowledge. I'll definitely have more questions next time!

Have a fantastic weekend everybody!!

Another Before And After

Its a long weekend here at the moment...yay!!

I've been making the most of the beautiful weather we're currently having by doing some painting.
Well, namely this...

I don't come across beautiful drawers like this very often here, so I definately wasn't going to leave it behind when I found it recently.

I knew I wanted to keep it old looking, so I distressed and waxed it, left the same hardware - but chose a modern grey color to bring it up to date.

Here's what it looked like before...

and after again...

And a super close up of the finish...

I hope you are enjoying some nice weather too, wherever you are in the world!!

Happy weekend,

A Baby's Nursery

A beautiful friend of mine (and her husband!) have just had their first baby on Monday!!

So exciting!!
Gosh it brings back memories...well I think they're memories...the first 6 months are a bit of a blur!

Anyway, they live in Melbourne now and she sent me some pics of her nursery which she said I could show you!
It's sooo cool...

I love their color choices, they didn't know what they were having! Its a boy btw!

See the cool rocking chair?!

We found this locally - a little worse for wear. Luckily on a visit not long after, my friend could fit it in her car and take it home where it was repaired and given a coat of glossy black.

I love gloss! It just makes everything better again!!

One last photo...

I love the plants too!!

I love greenery/indoor plants and always have something inside...I just have never thought to put greenery in the bedrooms!
I will now!!

Thanks Sare's for sharing these, and all the best with bubs!!

A Chair And A Metaphor

I realized something the other day. An epiphany was had.

I discovered that I could relate how I was feeling or 'stuff going on with me' to 'stuff' in my possession.
And by 'stuff' I mean - furniture - of course!

Mainly this...

I have 6 of these chairs in my possession. And I love them.

I've had them for years now.
They lived in my parents shed for a bit, then a friends place, until we finally had the room for them.

Look at that tufting! I even love the color!!
I couldn't wait to have them stationed around the table when our reno was done.

Only to find that they're a little low for the table. You tend to eat with your elbows up around your ears!
So I've kept two at the table and stashed the other 4 in any available corner/spot I could.

I was looking at them the other day and thought 'I love these chairs, I have since the moment I saw them. I waited and waited to get them in my home. I paid a lot for them. I really don't use them. Why am I hanging on to them?'

Then the epiphany happened. The chairs could be, perhaps, a metaphor for something I've been 'hanging on to' or unwilling to let go of emotionally.
A friendship that - like the chairs - I love and always will. That even though it had run it's course a while ago, I'd been hanging on to somehow.

Just Like The Chairs.

And so... I think it's time to let go.

I am letting go of the chairs...

and saying 'thank you - I'm sorry - goodbye' to the friendship I've been holding onto.

Do you hold onto stuff that you could let go of, that you can relate to your 'stuff'?
Or is it just me?:)

Thanks for listening,

A Reading Corner

I was looking at our pallet gallery the other day...and the thought struck me that
it could fit books on the shelves.

Well it fits a few anyway!

We currently have our books stashed here, there and everywhere while we wait to have our big plans for them realized.
Let's not get onto the topic of 'waiting' though. Let's enjoy what we have now!!

Sounds good in theory, doesn't it? Think I need a little more practice enjoying the waiting process!

Back to the books - I thought 'Why not stash them on this...

and make a reading corner in the process.

You can lay that chair right back (it has it's own footstool too) and delve into a novel.

Or spin the chair around for some gazing out the window time!
Always a favorite for a daydreamer!!

Now if only I had more time to actually use this spot!

Hope your weekend was great!!
